Small Power Energy Waste
Small power electrical equipment includes all of the unfixed devices, products, and appliances commonly plugged into the electricity network in an office environment.
This equipment can include items such as desktop PCs, laptops, monitors, printers, and copiers, as well as domestic-scale appliances such as kettles, fridges and dishwashers. The charging of work and personal portable devices, including phones and tablets, also falls within this definition.
Collectively, small power electrical equipment can typically account for 15% of the total electricity used in an office building. Using and charging electrical items also generates heat, which will contribute towards building cooling and ventilation requirements.
Our EaaS, utilising m.e sockets focuses on controlling small power – sometimes known as plug load power. Up to 50% of small power is wasted on average, from monitors left switched on or in standby to large water heaters and devices being kept on overnight for no significant reasons.
We have developed a platform to offer consumers real-time energy and GHG emissions monitoring, automated controls, and data-driven actions so they can optimise their building energy performance and lower carbon emissions.
The m.e power sockets have been designed to communicate with a Machine Learning (ML) platform to identify potential energy savings and are interfaced with the National Grid Carbon Intensity API. In addition, the sockets have a coloured LED indicator to visualise the current grid carbon value, allowing users to make a conscious decision on when they consume energy based on how “green” the grid electricity is.
The m.e sockets are IoT-connected smart sockets: ‣ Continuously monitor energy use and charging patterns ‣ (Unlike traditional sockets) can switch off when they predict energy is being wasted.
